Ever since the movie Avatar came out people have been talking about 3d TV. A TV that is 3D ready can be viewed in both 2D and 3D. LCD shutter glasses must be used to view 3D TV. The shutter glasses interact with the 3D ready TV creating a stereoscopic image.

3D ready TVs usually support HDMI 1.4 and a minimum refresh rate of 120Hz. As of January of this year Major electronics makers such as Samsung and Mitsubishi have released the first 3D ready TV sets utilizing Texas Instruments, DLP technology. In February of this year the Samsung 3D ready tv, model # UN55C7000 was released to the public.

Currently the entertainment industry is working on creating a common compatible standard for all 3D home electronics.Issues being attended to are frame rate, and 3D glasses which come in either active or passive, as well as bandwidth, blu-ray issues and recording formats. In April of this year Comcast and DirectTV will air the Masters Tournament in 3D.
