If you’re a fan of Broadway showtunes and Hollywood musicals, you should check out the Sunday Matinee Radio Show.  It’s a radio show that airs every week in Northeast Ohio on WRUW-FM 91.1.  You can also download it every week from the radio station’s website. 

Each week, they play a variety of Broadway music on the radio.  Sometimes there is a “theme” throughout the show, othertimes they just present a variety of music from Broadway, Hollywood and London musicals. 

The best part about the show is that they really try to make it into a “Broadway show” by starting each edition with an overture, presenting an intermission, and having a final closing theme song! 

They also present a fun sequence in the first hour called “Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better”.  First they play the original version of a song from a Broadway show.  Then, they play the same song, but done by someone else more contemporary.  For example, on a recent show they presented Louis Prima singing “I Wanna Be Like You” from Walt Disney’s “The Jungle Book”.  Then they  played a version by the group Smashmouth! 

So, if you’re a fan of Broadway musicals on the radio, you’ll probably enjoy the Sunday Matinee Radio Show on WRUW-FM 91.1.  It airs on Sundays, from 12 noon to 2 pm, Eastern US Time.
